Tried It Daily Harvest Ready-To-Blend Smoothies

In the world of smoothie making, three things reign supreme: healthy ingredients, taste, and convenience. That’s gotta be why smoothie shops are so popular, and why home-delivery options are picking up steam. Smoothie-lovers with on-the-go lives want the convenience of a quick, healthy smoothie with ingredients that fit into their lifestyle and a taste that packs a wallop. Nobody wants to drink kale chalk for breakfast, no matter how trendy it is.

I’ve long been a fan of making my own smoothies at home. I love being able to tinker with the ingredients and play around with healthy combinations that work for my diet and nutritional needs. I also love that it tends to be a bit easier on the wallet than buying a $10 – 12 concoction from one of my favorite stores. Don’t get me wrong, store bought is delicious and I’m a huge fan of smoothie bars. But my budget? Not so much.

What I don’t love about making smoothies at home? The fact that it takes forever to get everything washed, chopped, measured, blended, and cleaned up. It’s a process, people, and this busy girl-on-the-go doesn’t always have the leisure time to blend the day away.

And then I discovered Daily Harvest. Well, they reached out to me, obviously seeing a prime target of opportunity. I love smoothies, I love healthy ingredients, I love a good deal, and I love to optimize my time. BINGO.

They sent me a trial package and, well, it smoothie love at first sight.

What is the Daily Harvest?

They are an NYC-based company that delivers pre-chopped, pre-measured, pre-sealed frozen smoothie cups to front doors across the Eastern and Western thirds of the U.S. They have over a dozen delicious flavors ranging from powerhouse greens and berry brighteners to chocolate and coffee mixed with superfoods.

Here’s how it works.

One: open your freezer and pick a flavor.

Two: remove smoothie cup lid.

Three: pour contents into the blender.

Four: add one cup of liquid (water, almond milk, etc.)

Five: blend baby blend!

Six: pour back into cup + get on with your day.

That’s it! No fuss and no clean up (except for rinsing out the blender). It’s just about as foolproof and delicious as smoothies get.

How much?

For about $7 a blend, Daily Harvest comes in well under the average price of a store-bought equivalent.

What I liked: I was able to seriously cut down on at-home smoothie making time. The whole process takes about 30 seconds. I also appreciated that each recipe contained a mix of interesting superfoods (like turmeric, coconut oil, and goji berries) that I wouldn’t normally incorporate into my daily meals, frozen at peak freshness so their nutritional value isn’t compromised. Also, did I mention they take about 30 seconds to make before you’re out the door and on your way? I can’t even brush my teeth or pack my lunch in 30 seconds.

What I didn’t like: Some of the flavors weren’t as potent as I had hoped, tasting more “frozen” than fresh. For example, I was hoping the berry blend would be bursting with the taste of raspberries, blueberries, and cherries. It was good, don’t get me wrong, but it wasn’t the fruity explosion I was hoping for. To be honest, that was the only flavor I had that issue with, and after refreshing their flavor menu, I see it’s no longer available. So that takes care of that!
