Grubbing with GrohNola

Hi my name is Meaghan and I am a recovering granola addict. I used to walk a mile to a grocery store in a different neighborhood just to be able to buy my favorite brand in bulk. Every morning was the same story. Wake up, run, shower, granola. And not just a little sprinkle of granola…more of a heavy-handed-pour, oh it’s a small box so half of it really isn’t that much, kind of thing. It was a downward spiral of dependence and indulgence that just needed to end. And until this week, I have remained mostly granola free for the better part of three years.

So when the makers of GrohNola came my way and asked if I’d be interested in testing out a few of their flavors, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to dip my toe into the world of granola goodness again. I’m so glad I did.

GrohNola is made fresh in small batches here in DC. It contains absolutely no artificial flavors or ingredients and is packed full of healthy, nutritious, energy boosters like pumpkin seeds, coconut, sunflower seeds, almonds, agave, cinnamon, and flax seeds. Not bad, right? Talk about some awesome crash fuel. I love that it’s a local, small business working to do its part to make the world a healthier, yummier place.

I tested out the the sour cherry (my favorite!), the chocolate, and the blueberry flavors. Each has a strong undertone of toasty-cinnamon, with the “flavor” elements adding a little kick to the mix. The granola is very substantial and deeply crunchy (sometimes it seemed a bit hard to chomp on, so be careful!) with just a light hint of sweetness to it – it doesn’t leave you with the feeling that you just ate dessert for breakfast. Well…except for the chocolate flavor, which has a dusting of chocolate with dark chocolate chunks tossed in. I ate it straight from the bag one evening for a post-run treat.

Now that I’ve crossed back into the world of granola, what’s your favorite brand? Which one should I try next?

Too funny – I was there today buying a bag of the sour cherry! My parents read the review and asked that I hand-delive a few bags. Which flavor did you get? Hope you enjoy it!
