I’m not sure who at Living Social came up with the idea of hosting a glow in the dark 5k dance party…but they are now on my awesome list. The event attracted over 7,000 runners, walkers, and dance party enthusiasts for one night of glow-stick and sweat-infused fabulousness. I tend to think that all races are fun. The rush of excitement at the starting line, the on-course support cheering you on, and the exhausted thrill of making it across the finish. But this race raised the bar by adding mandatory glow sticks, glow in the dark face paint, spontaneous on-the-course dance parties, and a rockin music selection.
My friend Tiffany heard about this race online and asked if I wanted to join her. A huge thanks to her for cuing me into the fun!
Folks got really creative with the glow theme. We had a bit of a wait at the starting line, but it was a welcome chance to stand in awe of the creations people wore for the race. Check out this guy’s glowhawk.
The race went by really fast. Before we knew it, we were dancing and singing our way across the finish line. We were splattered in neon paint, slathered with glow in the dark face paint, and ready for the main event: the dance party!
With the 5k warm up behind us, we spent the next few hours breaking it down with thousands of other glow in the dark runners. I’ve never seen so much spandex at a dance party before!
Apologies to all of my favorite gyms out there, but this was the most fun I’ve ever had at a Friday night workout. Can we do this every week, please?
Did you go to the 5k dance party?
